Some of my best Brags & Whines

For this activity I gave my students the choice to "brag" or "whine" about being a certain type of plant. They could have chosen non-vascular plants, angiosperm (flowering plants), or gymnosperm (cone bearing plants). Here were some of my better Brags & Whines. [spelling is their own]

" It is terrible being an angiosperm. I am beutiful but people are always touching me. Bugs are always flying inside of me. And one day I'm going to be picked out of my roots!"

"Its pretty cool to have such massive cones. Kids throw my future offspring at other kids. All the other trees are always looking at my massive cones. The oak tree next to me is all over my pine needles."

"I'm so proud to be a gymnosperm! I'm way more wise than the other and I've been around long before angiosperms. I have no problem getting water because I am a vascular plant. My boyfriend is a male cone and I'm obviously a female cone. We all have the same common ancestor of green algae but I'm definitely cooler than both angiosperms or non vascular plants. I don't even need water to reproduce!"

"This sucks not having veins. I can't stay hydrated and I can't go far on land because I need the water. The water is so boring, and wet. I'm so jealous of those angiosperms. I'm so ugly"

"It's so great to be non-vasculer. My name is Mr. Green Algae and I am [not] a plant. All year I stay well hydrated at my home on an island in a river; it's paradise. I have lots of neighbors that have lots in common with me; in fact, I'm related to them. I get enough minerals because the water is constantly moving minerals so I don't need great roots, I love being non-vascular."

"I'm so pretty because I'm designed to attract everyone. It's so awesome, I can reporduce all by myself. Pollinators come to me all the time because my flower is so brightly colored and attractive. It took me a while to evolve so I'm newer and better than everyone."

"I am an angiosperm and I love it! Pollen always come to me from the wind, animals, or even water. I also get to tan out in the sun and make my own food. My flower petals are so pretty and pollenators love me for them."

"I love being a tullip. I'm just so beautiful. People love to smell me because of the hormones I let out. I love it. I get to fly far from my parents, theyr so annoying! Its the best!"

"Being a gymnosperm sucks. People always cut me down at Christmas time and put me in their houses. People eat me. We use pine trees in our houses."
